Karma Waters – Layla – April 2017

We chartered Layla for five days of cruising the Llangollen Canal between Whitchurch and Llangollen; a great holiday experience! A really interesting piece of the canal network with two aqueducts and three tunnels but only two locks so not too much work. We stayed in Llangollen overnight and took time to visit the town for a day taking in the Horseshoe Falls, a trip on the steam railway and visit to Plas Newydd. On the return we made a stop at Chirk Castle before negotiating the tunnel and aqueduct.

Layla is a fine 58 ft., six-berth narrowboat with an optional three doubles or two doubles and two singles layout with comfortable beds throughout. We collected her at her base at Whixall Marina. The hand-over was thorough and detailed and Bryan covered all eventualities from how to steer and moor to changing over gas cylinders. The boat is well equipped for six and was very clean and tidy on our arrival. Toiletries and teabags are thoughtful additions in case of forgetfulness.

In conclusion I would give both Layla and this stretch of canal five stars; a great combination that has me excited at the prospect of further canal adventures.
